In 2016, Slovenia became the first country in the world to be declared a Green Destination. More than 60% of Slovenia is covered by forests, placing us among the most forested countries in the world. In addition to forests, our land is characterized by numerous rivers, lakes, the sea, hills, mountain pastures, mountains, and vineyards—all of which make Slovenia one of the most dynamic and beautiful countries in the world.
A piece of this paradise on earth is also the Dolenjska region and our vineyard hill Grčevje, located opposite the Gorjanci Mountains (1170 m). We are connected by the Krka River, which offers locals and visitors numerous activities. At an altitude of 500 meters, you will enjoy an exceptional view, peace, and above all, the vibrant green color of our vineyards, meadows, and forests. In autumn, when nature is particularly enchanting, this green turns into beautiful yellow, orange, and red autumn shades. Romantic mornings and sunsets, the singing of birds and crickets, peace, and quiet will allow you to reconnect with yourself and enjoy heartfelt moments with your loved ones.
To not only preserve all of this but also upgrade it, we decided to obtain the “Green Key” environmental certification. To this end, we act in an environmentally friendly manner in all areas of our business, while also wishing to raise awareness among our visitors, guests, friends, and relatives. We will continuously follow trends and seek new solutions for the responsible use of natural resources and the efficient use of electricity and thermal energy. By doing so, we benefit nature as well as ourselves and you, our dear visitors, to whom we wish to provide the most optimal and unspoiled natural environment. We are grateful if you respect and follow our tips, thereby joining us in contributing to environmental preservation. We also welcome your comments and suggestions.

ENVIRONMENTAL CERTIFICATE “GREEN KEY” – Our sustainable practices to date:
- We are a tourist farm whose main activities are viticulture and tourism. Two generations (out of four) actively work on the farm and in tourism.
- On abandoned, steep slopes, we planted just under 4,000 grapevines, nearly half of which are fungus-resistant varieties (PIWI) that are not treated with phytopharmaceutical products. We also planted more than 50 fruit trees and set up two organic vegetable gardens.
- We restored four vineyard cottages (zidanice), aged between 150 and 220 years.
- In an old, decommissioned wooden barrel, we arranged a sauna and transferred an antique wine press to the estate.
- We installed a shared biological wastewater treatment plant for all facilities.
- For several years, we have been reducing the use of plastic and replacing it with natural materials.
- We use wastewater from the hot tubs for irrigation.
- We installed an electric vehicle charging station.
- We use only natural and eco-friendly cleaning agents for cleaning our facilities.
- We regularly monitor water and energy consumption.
- We promote local suppliers to our guests.
- Our buildings feature thermal insulation on facades and roofs.
A few tips on how I can contribute to a responsible attitude towards the environment (at home or as a tourist):
- I consistently separate waste.
- I save water: water from the tap does not run unnecessarily, I am mindful of the number and duration of showers, and I turn off the tap while brushing my teeth (saving 12–15 liters of water).
- I drink tap water instead of bottled water in plastic containers.
- I am mindful when changing bed linen and towels.
- I heat responsibly (not heating to the maximum while leaving windows open).
- When I am not in the cottage or leave the room, I turn off the lights—saving energy and reducing CO2 emissions.
- When cooking, I use a lid, saving more than 60% of the energy required for food preparation.
- I do not leave the TV, computers, or sound systems in standby mode and do not leave phone chargers plugged in—saving 10% of electricity.
- I wash laundry and dishes only when the machine is full, or I use the half-load function.
- I do not pour any chemicals, paints, varnishes, insecticides, or medications down the drains.
- I buy products with minimal packaging; I buy fruits and vegetables in bulk.
